Ipoh SOHO2 Garden Hotel
Up north, in Ipoh, there has been an unprecedented building boom. The Mayor’s office has stated, that as of the end of 2014, they were the third busiest Local Council, with only the councils of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya ahead of them. This is an amazing statistic. We were also called in to look at some design options for a site called SOHO2, located at the intersection of Jalan Sultan Idris Shah (Brewster Road), corner of The Sultan Yussuf Fountain roundabout. As usual, there was no brief given, us Architects were supposed to decide what was commercially viable, what kind of Unique Selling Proposition it would have and all on the cheap, and it had to be done in 24 hours. Well, relatively cheap. And less than 24 hours in all honesty. Anyway, if anyone is familiar with the location, it’s a highly visible spot. So we decided to propose a hotel there. So we did a quick proposal and a render of a sexy little thing that we grew to like a lot more t
he more we looked at it. Anyway, in the end we didn’t get the job. And they built more shophouses on that spot.
